AD Import Agent Install
In this simulation, you'll experience what it's like to install Active Directory Import to allow the one-way sync of users and groups from Active Directory to JumpCloud. Read more in this article
How it works
Pre-requisites: You will need access to your organizations domain controller.
1. Download the import agent.
- Login to the admin console and go to the directories page.
- Click the plus button to add a new active directory instance.
- When prompted enter your servers unique domain name.
- Click “Install a new import agent” and open the downloaded file once it has finished downloading.
- Follow the prompts in the installer. When asked enter the name of your server that you added to JumpCloud.
2. Create a dedicated import user.
- Open your Server Manager and click “Tools” > “Active Directory Users and Computers”.
- Then right click to open the actions menu and click “New” > “User”. Give this user a distinguishable name. Make sure it does not include the word “JumpCloud”.
- Create a password for this user.
- Deselect the option “User must change password at next logon” and select the option “Password never expires”.
- Follow the rest of the prompts to finish creating your user.
3. Create a JumpCloud security group.
- Right click to open the actions menu and click “New” and then “Group”.
- Name this group “JumpCloud”.
4. Delegate control to the new user.
- Right click the “Users” folder in the left pane.
- Click “Delegate Control”.
- Follow the prompts in the window.
- Click “Add” and type in the username of the dedicated import user.
- Follow the prompts until you get to the Tasks to Delegate step.
- Select “Read all user information”.
- Follow the prompts to finish the setup.
5. Finish the installation.
- When prompted by the installer login with with your new users credentials.
- Click Next and return to the JumpCloud console to retrieve your API key. This should still be open in your console. If not, it’s located in the dropdown menu in the top right of your screen.
- Paste this in the Agent Install Window and click next.
- Return to the JumpCloud console to retrieve your Organization ID. This should still be open in your console. If not, it’s located on the settings page.
- Paste this in the Agent Install Window and click next.
- Follow the prompts to complete your setup. This will require you to restart your system.
